Getting to Know the Apostles - Week 70
Posted August 22, 2010
When did you enter the Congregation of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus?
I entered the Congregation in 1991 after coming to know the Sisters during my years at our high school, Sacred Heart Academy, in Hamden, CT. The sense of love and service that was so strong among the Sisters was something that spread through the school.
What have been your ministries and where have you served?
I have taught at Sacred Heart Villa, our nursery school in St. Louis, MO and at elementary schools in New York City (St. Joseph School) and Bridgeport, CT (St. Raphael School). My ministry has recently changed from classroom teacher to principal.
What has been a special blessing and/or a joyful moment that you have received in this or any of your ministries?
In general it is a blessing to share in moments of awe and excitement with the children. Some of these times are simple – like a little one finally learning to jump rope, the ‘I get it!’ in the middle of a lesson, an older kids' pride in a project that is finally completed. And some warm the heart – like the whole school singing “Come and Make My Heart Your Home’ in church and the younger children doing motions from their places just because they love the song; or a middle school student wanting to become a Catholic.
What hobbies or interests do you have when you are not working in your ministry?
I enjoy gardening, small home improvement projects, crafts, and reading. My family is a blessing in my life and I enjoy visiting them too!
What has been the grace of living in community with other sisters?
The grace has been the joy and support of the Sisters while journeying with God.
If Mother Clelia were alive today what would you like to say to her?
Thank you for your trust in God, sacrifices, and example in sharing the love of Christ. The charism you have given us is priceless.
