Open your heart to meet Christ in the young, the elderly, and immigrant communities by serving with the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus this summer.
What to Expect
In all service sites, volunteers will minister with sisters and live in community with one another. Usually sharing meals with the sisters, they will also be invited to pray with the sisters and attend liturgy daily.
Time for community sharing and reflection on the graces and challenges of the day will be included.
Apostle Immigrant Services
At Apostle Immigrant Services, sisters and other volunteers offer support to immigrants and refugee individuals and families living in the Greater New Haven, CT area. Volunteers will work alongside sisters/ lay volunteers and staff to welcome applicants, prepare applications, offering tutoring and serve at the AIS office as needed.
Knowledge of Spanish is beneficial, but not required in this service.
Clelian Adult Day Center
Providing a joyful space for seniors to spend their day, Clelian Adult Day Center offers attention, healthcare, recreation and spirituality to provide a holistic experience for elder adults. Clelian Center is serves a wide range of individuals from different economic, race and religious backgrounds Volunteers will be expected to interact directly with clients, particularly working alongside the recreation director to lift spirits and elicit full participation from clients. Compassion for the elderly and a fun-loving nature are strong requirements for this ministry.
Sacred Heart Academy
Catholic girls’ high school, serving the Hamden/ New Haven area for 70 years,
Sacred Heart Academy builds a culture of service. Embracing the call of the
Gospel, the Sacred Heart community provides a free summer
camp experience for sixth
eighth graders from St. Martin de Porres School.
Volunteers will work alongside sisters and
other students to provide this camp experience.
Enthusiastic, generous volunteers are needed.
St. Louis, MO Service
Cor Jesu Academy
Cor Jesu Academy is an all girl’s academy particularly known for forming the young women in their Catholic faith. Cor Jesu offers a summer enrichment and academic camp offering free tuition for students with little financial resources.
Their summer camp relies on the generosity of joyful volunteers.
Sacred Heart Villa
Sacred Heart Villa
began in 1940 as a childcare service for working parents on “The Hill," in St. Louis, MO. Since its beginning, the Villa has been dedicated to the education and care of preschool age children in their formative years. The sisters serve as administrators, teachers, and catechists along with a dedicated lay staff.
Volunteers will assist the staff in providing care and classes for nearly 100 children from age 2 – 5 during the year, or in an exciting and enriching summer program. Love for children, energy and oodles of patience and creativity are required for this service!
