Cash
The most common method of making a charitable gift is to contribute cash. A cash gift can provide donors with favorable tax benefits. For example, if you make a $2,500 gift before December 31 and you are in the 28% marginal tax bracket, you will save $700 in taxes.
Matching Gifts
Sometimes your gift can be doubled by your company or the firm from which you have retired. The company’s personnel or human resources office can tell you if they have a matching gift program. If so, please fill out the matching gift form and include it with your gift.
United Way
If you give to the United Way via your employer, you can designate your donation to be directed to the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Simply use our designation code: S1622.
Securities
Making a gift of appreciated stock is one of the most advantageous forms of giving. If you donate stock that you purchased for $2,000 more than 12 months ago, and it is now worth $10,000, you get a deduction for the full $10,000. In addition, you have avoided the capital gains tax on the appreciation of the stock.
Planned Gifts
There are many ways to make an estate gift. Please consult your tax advisor or estate planning professional to determine which is best for you. Bequests are the easiest and most common type of planned gift. A bequest in your will may include a specific amount or percentage of your estate’s value, or a residual amount, after loved ones are cared for. Other types of planned gifts include life insurance, publicly held securities, savings bonds, closely held stock, and retirement plan assets.
Real Estate/Personal Property
If you have owned the real estate for 12 months or more, you will avoid capital gains taxes and may deduct the fair market value of the real estate. If a gift of tangible personal property is related to the Congregation's purposes, it is fully deductible at fair market value.
Insurance
Donate by making Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus the owner and beneficiary of your insurance policy.
