Charitable Giving
Cash
The most common method to make a charitable gift is to contribute cash because it will cost you much less when you file your taxes. For example, if you make a $2,500 gift before December 31 and you are in the 28% marginal tax bracket, you will save $700 in taxes.
Securities
Making a gift of appreciated stock is one of the most advantageous forms of giving. If you donate stock that you purchased for $2,000 more than 12 months ago, and it is now worth $10,000, you get a deduction for the full $10,000. In addition, you have avoided the capital gains tax on the appreciation of the stock.
Planned Gifts
Examples of planned gifts include designating Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in your will, forming a charitable trust or purchasing a gift annuity. Charitable trusts offer significant tax savings while providing annual income. Trusts are funded with an asset. At the end of your life, the Congregation will receive the remaining funds in the trust. Gift annuities provide you with a lifetime income, which is based upon your age.
Real Estate/Personal Property
If you have owned the real estate for 12 months or more, you will avoid capital gains taxes and may deduct the fair market value of the real estate. If a gift of tangible personal property is related to the Congregation's purposes, it is fully deductible at fair market value.
Insurance
Donate by making Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus the owner and beneficiary of your insurance policy.
Commemorative Opportunities
At one time or another, someone special has touched our lives. Often it takes years of reflection to fully understand the impact that person has had on the course of our development.
A truly gratifying experience is giving a gift in honor or in memory of someone important. Many opportunities are available for you to create lasting tributes to family and friends. These commemorative opportunities offer the chance to remember someone important and make a difference for the Church of tomorrow.
