We are pleased to announce that first-class relics of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque—one of the patron saints of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—will be present at Mount Sacred Heart Chapel, 295 Benham St. in Hamden, for public veneration on Monday, June 22, between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. All are welcome to spend time in prayer before these sacred relics. No RSVP is required.
Canonized in 1920, St. Margaret Mary inspired widespread devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus after Christ revealed His Heart to her through a series of private revelations—including the 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart. These revelations led to the institution of the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1856 and modern-day devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Each hour of veneration will begin with a 20-minute guided meditation on themes related to the Sacred Heart. The relics, along with commemorative holy cards, are being made available through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council, New Haven.
Please note the following information:
- Visitors are asked to park in the lot nearest the carport located at the far end of the property.
- Please enter and exit through the carport entrance only. (Ring the bell on the left to gain entry.)
- For those who need assistance, there is an elevator to the first floor and a lift to access the main chapel.
The relics traveled to the United States under the custody of the Knights of Columbus for the U.S. Catholic bishops’ June 11 national consecration to the Sacred Heart. They will be on display at the Blessed Michael McGivney Pilgrimage Center in New Haven (formerly the Knights of Columbus Museum) from June 17–21 and June 24–27, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council, New Haven, for their partnership in making this grace-filled opportunity possible!
